Titre : How to end hunger Type de document : document électronique Auteurs : Jorg Dobereiner, Directeur de publication, rédacteur en chef ; Francisco Mari, Auteur Editeur : Bonn [Germany] : Engagement Global Année de publication : novembre/décembre 2022 Collection : D+C development and cooperation num. 49 Importance : 43 p Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Développement Tiers monde Faim Agriculture Index. décimale : 06.01 Développement - Généralités Résumé : All countries, rich and poor, are currently groaning under the weight of high food prices. Not only are households forced to turn to cheaper, less healthy food; the poorest in society face a truly existential threat: the number of people starving in the world started to rise again in 2020. Some high prices are only indirectly due to food shortages; the major drivers are food speculation and high fossil fuel prices. Solutions are needed for this. After around two years of coronavirus pandemic, the monthly food price index published by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) showed a year-on-year surge of more than 30% at the end of 2021. This came after nearly ten years of relatively stable prices. The FAO index is based on the international prices of meat, dairy, cereals, sugar and vegetable oils. While rice and sugar prices showed only a moderate rise, the price of vegetable oils doubled. Titre : How to spend it : smart procurement for more effective aid Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Bodo Ellmers, Auteur Editeur : Eurodad Année de publication : September 2011 Importance : 30 p Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Aide au développement PED Index. décimale : 06.01 Développement - Généralités Résumé : In the run-up to the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF4) in Busan, South Korea, at the end of November, Eurodad is publishing a major new report: "How to spend it. Smart procurement for more effective aid" assesses progress towards the aid effectiveness commitments and includes suggestions for a new and ambitious agreement in Busan. It constitutes one of the few independent civil society research reports ahead of the HLF4.
The report investigates how aid is actually spent, who the beneficiaries are and what the local economic impact is.
It builds on six country case studies in Ghana, Namibia, Uganda, Bangladesh, Bolivia and Nicaragua conducted by Eurodad together with local civil society organisations. It monitors the implementation of aid effectiveness commitments in the fields of procurement, aid untying and the use of country systems which were made in the Paris Declaration and the Accra Agenda for Action. Based on this evidence, it proposes a forward-looking agenda for policy and decision makers to consider in the run-up to the high-level forum in Busan: transforming aid through smarter procurement, and making aid spending work for the poor.En ligne : http://eurodad.org/4639/ How to spend it : smart procurement for more effective aid [texte imprimé] / Bodo Ellmers, Auteur . - [S.l.] : Eurodad, September 2011 . - 30 p.

The paper argues the need instead to balance protection of creditor interests with policy measures to enable countries facing unsustainable debt burdens to return to normal economic functioning.
