Titre : Adjustment lending and mobilization of private and public resources for growth Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Country Economics Department, Auteur Editeur : The World Bank Année de publication : 1992 Collection : Policy and Research Series num. 22 Importance : 99 p Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Développement économique Tags : Ajustement structurel Croissance économique Développement économique Secteur privé Secteur public Banque mondiale Pays en développement Index. décimale : 02.01 Finances Résumé : Earlier reports on adjustment lending concluded that priorities in reform should be to end large distortions and assure macroeconomic stability, but that more attention needs to be given to increasing investment, strengthening the public sector, and protecting the poor. In supporting adjustment programs, the Bank should ensure that there is adequate financing and government commitment to reform. Using the additional evidence available on economic outcomes, this report updates the analysis on the effects of adjustment lending on growth in aggregate incomes and on the poor and examines two areas that have been identified as problematic in the adjustment process: the recovery of private sector investment, and reform of public spending. The report is organized around systematic comparisons among three groups of countries: those that received a substantial amount of adjustment lending during the 1980s, those that received some adjustment lending, and those that received no adjustment lending. The first group, termed intensive adjustment lending countries, includes countries that received at least two structural adjustment loans or three adjustment loans of any type by June 1990, with the first loan effective by June 1986. Countries in the second group, other adjustment lending countries, either received their first adjustment loan later or had fewer loans. Non-adjustment lending countries had received no Bank adjustment assistance by June 1990. Banque mondialeTags : Commerce Banque Mondiale Developpement Index. décimale : CD-rom Résumé : Today, trade policy is at the forefront of the development agenda, and it is a critical element of any strategy to fight poverty. This renewed interest in trade liberalization does not come from dogma but instead is based on a careful assessment of development experience over the last 50 years. Developing countries that increased their integration into the world economy over the past two decades achieved higher growth in incomes, longer life expectancy, and better schooling. These countries, home to some 3 billion people, enjoyed an average 5 percent growth rate in income per capita in the 1990s compared to 2 percent in rich countries. Titre : European Integration and Trade with the Developing World Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Gerhard Pohl, Auteur ; Piritta Sorsa, Auteur Editeur : The World Bank Année de publication : 1992 Collection : Policy and Research Series num. 21 Importance : 85 p Note générale : 03 POH Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Europe Tags : Europe Commerce mondial Index. décimale : 03 Commerce-Mondialisation Résumé : European integration has taken a major step forward this year. "Project 92," as it is sometimes known, is the completion of the merger into a single market of the national markets of all members of the European Community (EC), before 1 January 1993. After this year, none of the twelve EC members can discriminate between goods, services, or factors of production originating anywhere in the EC. This objective was already laid downby the Treaty of Rome of the original six EC member countries, but its final implementation began in earnest only in 1986. Since then, events havebeen moving fast. The timely completion of the common market of the Twelve EC members, an objective viewed with widespread skepticism when proclaimed in 1985, is now taken for granted.
