Résumé : |
Agriculture must change fundamentally. This industry is contributing up to 37 % to global greenhouse-gas emissions according to the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD). The worst climate harm is being done when forests and green spaces are destroyed and when nitrogen and methane are emitted due to the application of mineral fertilisers or by cattle herds. The expansion of farmland and the use of chemical pesticides, moreover, both severely harm biodiversity.

Index. décimale : |
06.01 Développement - Généralités |
Résumé : |
In past ages, children were their parents’ property and not considered persons of their own. That changed in the 20th century. Modern society considers children
to be individuals who enjoy personal rights. These are universal principles which the UN General Assembly adopted in 1989 when it passed the Convention on the
Rights of the Child. All member nations ratified it, with one exception: the USA. The Convention is the most important human-rights document in regard to children. Girls and boys are entitled to health services, an education, social inclusion and a say in everything that concerns them. They must be free to develop their own personality. To what extent children’s rights are actually respected, is another matter. Things diverge from country to country. Among other things, it depends on how well the rule of law is enforced. It is a huge challenge that infringements of children’s rights often have no legal repercussions, even when those infringements are evident. |

Développement Tiers monde Climat |
Index. décimale : |
06.01 Développement - Généralités |
Résumé : |
One of the climate movement’s slogans is: “The time to act is now.” Indeed, scientists agree that it is high time to scale up ambition. In the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the nations of the world committed to limiting the increase of global temperature to an average of 1.5°C. That is feasible, but only if sweeping, measures are taken fast. So far, the share of CO2 in the atmosphere has kept rising – in spite of Paris and much nice-sounding rhetoric. The Covid-19 pandemic has only dented the curve marginally. In regard to the climate, 2021 is expected to be a decisive year. Ahead of the UN climate summit COP26 in Scotland in November, governments must update their national determined contributions (NDCs). What they have promised to date, does not come anywhere close to what is needed for achievement of the Paris goals. The targets spelled out in the updated NDCs will guide the global community’s response to the climate crisis. Obviously, ambitious targets are not enough; leaders must also make sure they are met. Governments must rise to their responsibility. |

Racisme Politique sociale |
Résumé : |
Racism is offensive and discriminating. Racists disregard human dignity, denying the fundamental principle that all people are of equal value, enjoy equal
rights and deserve equal opportunities. Although this principle should be general consensus, racism persists in all world regions. It has many harmful impacts
– not only on individual victims, but on entire societies. Systemic racism means that members of certain communities – for example, those with darker skin colours – stay poorer than those of other communities and do not get the same opportunities in the education system, employment or the housing market. Often, the legal system puts them at a disadvantage too. In particularly bad cases, deadly violence is perpetrated by the police, whose official duty is to „serve and protect“. |
