Résumé : |
This book is highly critical of the policies of the World Bank, which was established in 1946 and named The International Bank of Reconstruction and Development. It, along with the International Monetary Fund, was one of the international institutions arising out of the Bretton Woods Conference. Rich suggests that to protect the environment and to better help the poor of the world, it would be appropriate to abolish the World Bank on its 50th anniversary unless it can be radically reformed. The type of radical reforms that Rich would like to see include more disbursement of its funds through non-governmental organizations (NGOs) rather than governments, with much more attention being paid to local communities. |
