Omnia sunt communia / Massimo De Angelis
Titre : Omnia sunt communia : On the Commons and the Transformation to Postcapitalism Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Massimo De Angelis, Auteur Editeur : London : ZED Books Année de publication : 2017 Importance : 436 p Note générale : 06.02.ANG Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Capitalisme Néolibéralisme Biens communs Index. décimale : 06.02 Développement durable Résumé : This book reveals the potential for radical transformation contained in a conceptualisation of the commons as a set of social systems, rather than just common goods. In this weaving of radical political economy, Omnia Sunt Communia sets out the steps to postcapitalism. By conceptualising the commons not just as common goods but as a set of social systems, Massimo De Angelis shows their pervasive presence in everyday life, mapping out a strategy for total social transformation. From the micro to the macro, De Angelis unveils the commons as fields of power relations – shared space, objects, subjects – that explode the limits of daily life under capitalism. He exposes attempts to co-opt the commons, through the use of code words such as 'participation' and 'governance', and reveals the potential for radical transformation rooted in the reproduction of our communities, of life, of work and of society as a whole. Titre : Ours by right : Women's rights as human rights Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Joanna Kerr, Auteur Editeur : London : ZED Books Année de publication : 1993 Importance : 180 p Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Genre Tags : Feminisme Femmes Droits Humains Index. décimale : 07.02 Société Résumé : With the approach of the Fourth United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, this is an obvious time to reflect upon the progress made with respect to the promotion and protection of women's human rights. The last such conference, held in Nairobi, Kenya, generated a document entitled "The Nairobi Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women," the purpose of which is to "provide a framework for renewed commitment by the international community to the advancement of women and the elimination of gender-based discrimination." In addition to the "Forward-Looking Strategies," human rights activists can refer to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women as internationally recognized declarations condemning all forms of discrimination based on sex. It would seem, then, that there is no shortage of documentation supporting women's human rights and calling for the elimination of gender-based discrimination. More problematic, of course, is the enforcement of the norms articulated in these documents. Titre : A people's world : alternatives to economic globalisation Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : John Madeley, Auteur Editeur : London : ZED Books Année de publication : 2003 Importance : 236 p Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Alternatives Tags : Mondialisation Alternatives Index. décimale : 03 Commerce-Mondialisation Résumé : The terrorist attacks on 9/11 shifted public attention to terrorism. But John Madeley contends that the sources that nurture violence and extremism remain rooted in a global system that has rapidly become more and more economically unjust, corporate-driven, financially unstable, and socially illegitimate. Madeley strips bare the myth that there are no alternatives to it. He looks at what needs to happen to enable alternatives to be implemented, paying particular attention to: Tackling corporate power; The World Trade Organization--reform or replace?; Switching the economic emphasis from the global to the local; and Cancellation of foreign debt. Madeley interviewed Peggy Antrobus, Walden Bello, Barry Coates, Fiona Dove, Gustavo Esteva, Hazel Henderson, Francois Houtart, Martin Khor, David Korten, Caroline Lucas MEP, Helena Norberg-Hodge, Ann Pettifor, Devinder Sharma, Vandana Shiva, Victoria Tauli-Corpuz and many others for this book. Yet, as Vandana Shiva shows, what kinds of ideas, technologies, identification of genes, even manipulations of life forms can be owned and exploited for profit by giant corporations is a vital issue for our times. In this readable and compelling introduction to an issue that lies at the heart of the socalled knowledge economy, Vandana Shiva makes clear how this Western-inspired and unprecedented widening of the concept does not in fact stimulate human creativity and the generation of knowledge Protect or Plunder ? : Understanding intellectual property rights [texte imprimé] / Vandana Shiva, Auteur . - London : ZED Books, 2001 . - 146 p. - (Global issues in a changing world) .

Walden Bello and his co-authors show how vested interests, local and international, propelled the Thai people down a particular path which is unsustainable in terms of human exploitation, social disruption, and economic fragility. Thailand, like the rest of the worls needs to re-think the fundamentals of its economic model.
